WKU students elect new Student Government Association president

The new executive council for Western Kentucky University’s Student Government Association was sworn in today.
Sam Kurtz, a sophomore from Bowling Green, KY will begin his term as Student Government Association President. In addition to being Student Body President, Kurtz will serve as Student Regent.
In the general election held April 17-18, 2023, 1,194 students voted for President, Executive Vice President, Administrative Vice President, and student senators.
In the presidential contest, Kurtz won with 967 votes. Louisville sophomore Annalise Finch won the Executive Vice President position with 963 votes. Salvador León Golib, a freshman from Mexico won the Administrative Vice President position with 960 votes.
When asked about his presidency, Kurtz said, “The student body of Western Kentucky University should expect a dedicated leader that will represent every student on this campus while advocating for improvements that benefit the overall student body. They should expect a president whose office is always open and who will work for every single student enrolled.”
Three individuals were elected as senior senators: Samatha Bodemann, Will Hemenover and Connor Flatt. Ethan Taylor, Anne-Marie Wright and Sarah Vincent were also elected as junior senators and Rush Robinson, Callison Padgett and Hannah Evans were elected sophomore senators.
Senators for each academic college were elected. Kayla Distler will begin serving as the College of Education & Behavioral Science senator. Madison Payne will represent Ogden College of Science & Engineering, and Connor Ferguson will serve as the senator for Gordon Ford College of Business. Julia Duggins begins as the College of Health & Human Services senator, and David Darnell earned the senator position for Potter College of Arts & Letters.
Tanner Blood was elected as a first-generation senator.
