Remembering Lee Robertson
- WKU Alumni Association
- Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024

The WKU Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement team is sad to share of the passing of J. Lee Robertson (’50, ’57) on July 3, 2024. Affectionately known as “Mr. Western,” Robertson often referred to his 77 years on the Hill as a “love affair” with his alma mater.
In 1960, then-President Kelly Thompson brought Robertson back to the University as Director of Alumni Affairs and Placement Services. While Placement Services became a separate office in 1971, he remained Alumni Director until 1985.
Although he retired in 1985, his service to WKU continued, spanning seven decades. Among his many roles were Interim Director of WKU-Glasgow, Head Coach of the Men’s Golf Team and Special Assistant to the Vice President of Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. July 28 at State Street United Methodist Church with a celebration in memory of Lee Robertson to follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Eva & Jim Martens Alumni Center on the WKU campus.
