Increasing the Number of Qualified STEM Educators Through the Use of the Interdisciplinary STEM Theme of the Environment

This NASA-funded project will implement an innovative collaborative project that addresses the need to increase the number of qualified science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educators. The statewide collaboration of seven higher education institutions in Kentucky will produce STEM middle and high school teachers that have advanced content-specific pedagogical preparation. The project will serve as a model for university partnerships in other states and STEM projects.

As a partner in this multi-university project, WKU will:

Recruit, hire, and manage eight undergraduate” Fellows,” who will work part time in the Center for Environmental Education and Sustainability.  These undergraduate fellows will participate in the creation of an interdisciplinary STEM learning module on sustainability and serve as a mentor based on Western Kentucky University’s area of expertise in sustainability learning modules.
