Counseling & Student Affairs Workshops

WKU Counseling and Student Affairs has partnered with WKU Continuing and Professional Development to offer this program with FREE CE credits to participants. These workshops are sponsored by the Department of Counseling and Student Affairs, with the Talley Family Counseling Center, through a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) program.

The TFCC is housed within the Department of Counseling and Student Affairs.

Martha Day, PhD.

Dr. Martha M. Day serves as Co-Director of the SKyTeach program for STEM Teacher Preparation and Professor of STEM Education at Western Kentucky University.  She has also served as a science teacher, coach and school administrator in K-12 public schools.  

Day's research focuses on effective pedagogy and problem-based learning in the STEM disciplines. In addition to her work in academia, Day serves as a coach to children who train and compete in equestrian events.

Partner Sexual Betrayal: Consequences and Impact on the Family

2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST via Zoom

The program will help you gain an understanding of sexual betrayal trauma within couples dyad. It will also assist you in identifying how betrayal trauma can also impact the individual’s functioning as a family member and parent.  You will also gain knowledge of how relationship betrayal can impact and manifest within children living in the home.


Jackie F. Newman, CPTT, LPCC-S

Jackie F. Newman, CPTT, LPCC-S is the owner of Ampersand Recovery and Wellness Center in Bowling Green.  As a Certified Partner Trauma Therapist, Jackie specializes in working with clients who have or are currently experiencing trauma from the sexual betrayal of a spouse or partner.  Jackie works with partners through individual therapy, couples’ therapy, group retreats and assists in Full Therapeutic Disclosures when needed.  Jackie can also be found at Unbridled Connection and as a Guide at Onsite Workshops in Cumberland Furnace, TN and Ramona, CA.

Integrative Mental Health: Self-Care and Awareness for College Students

Presentation will educate clinicians on an introductory level of the integrative approach to mental health. 


Cathy Gamm, MA, LPCC-S, CBHC, CIMHP

Cathy has been a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor for 15 years. She received her designation as Supervisor in 2014. In addition to receiving her Masters in Mental Health Counseling & Marriage & Family Therapy, Cathy has gone on to receive a Certification as a Brain Health Coach from the Amen Clinics and certification as a Certified Integrative Mental Health Provider. Cathy has experience working with teens, college-age, and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationship issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. She works from an integrative mental health perspective for all clients to address the Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual aspect of whole mind-body wellness.

Eating Disorders: Family Impact and Generational Patterns

2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST via Zoom

This program will share the most recent updates in diagnostic criteria and then focus on how family dynamics and generational patterns affect the development and maintenance of eating disorders and disordered eating. Ways of noticing and identifying potential eating issues will be discussed as well as levels of treatment to address both subclinical and clinically significant eating disorders.


Susan E. Belangee, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, ACS, DNASAP
NASAP Executive Director

Dr. Susan Belangee resides in Canton, GA and has 25 years of experience researching and working with clients struggling with eating disorders from the Adlerian perspective. She presents frequently on this topic, sharing her knowledge and wisdom regionally, nationally, and internationally. Her latest achievement was co-authoring the Eating Disorders chapter in Psychopathology and Psychotherapy: DSM-5-TR Diagnosis, Case Conceptualization, and Treatment, 4th Edition. She has taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels at several universities and enjoys guest speaking for colleagues' classes. Currently, Susan serves as Executive Director for the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology and also has her own training and consulting business, Dynamic Growth Counseling and Consulting Services, LLC.

This is the contact information for the Lifelong Learning program area within WKU Continuing & Professional Development- the administrative support for this workshop series. For questions about the content of the workshops, we will be happy to refer your questions to the best contact in the Department of Counseling and Student Affairs.

Individuals must complete registration, attend at least 75% of the duration, and submit an evaluation for each workshop in order to receive a certificate indicating the continuing education credit earned. These steps are required to meet the grant reporting requirements.

Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) via the South Central Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC)    KBN CE credit is available for most workshops. Refer to individual workshop details to confirm availability.

Am email with the link to the evaluation will be sent to those who met the 75% attendance criteria following each workshop. Use the link to access and complete the evaluation. Our goal is to send the email by the end of the next business day following the workshop.

The system is set to send a confirmation at the time of registration, a reminder one day before the workshop, and a reminder one hour before the workshop. Each of these emails will include Zoom information for live remote/online workshops. You may not have received emails if

  1. The emails went to an incorrect email address (email LL@wku.edu and request assistance to change your email address)
  2. The emails went to your spam or junk folder (locate the emails in these folders and mark them as NOT junk or spam in order to ensure that you receive future emails)

If you do not have a NetID, close the browser window/tab and open your Zoom application. On the Home screen, click the option to Join. Enter the Meeting ID and Join. Note that you will be asked to "register" as you join the workshop. This is for attendance tracking purposes. It is not required, but helpful, if you enter your name as you did in the registration system and/or as you would like for it to appear on your certificate.

In your initial account creation confirmation email, you received a username (WK#######). Use this username and the password you created to log in. If you do not remember your username OR password, click the Forgot button. Then, enter your email address. You will receive an email with your username and a link to complete the password reset process. It may take the system up to 12 minutes to generate emails, so please allow sufficient time.

Certificates for each workshop are created as a batch. Please bear with us as we allow time for participants to complete all of the criteria. Our goal is to distribute certificates within two weeks of the workshop.
