One Month and Counting

This past Sunday, July 23, the Moon slid just under the Sun as it moved through new Moon, the phase when the Moon is in the same direction as the Sun in the sky. Normally we don't see the new Moon as it is lost in the glare of the Sun and the Sun is lighting up the far side. Last night we caught a glimpse of the young two day old Moon We're counting down through the last cycle of phases, the last lunation before the eclipse! As the Moon comes around to new, the alignment of the Earth, Moon and Sun from our special point of view in Bowling Green will put the Moon moving right across the Sun. We will see the new Moon block the Sun as we stand under the shadow of the Moon, enjoying the Great American Eclipse on August 21.
