TEACH Grant Initial and Subsequent Counseling will explain the TEACH Grant Program
and the TEACH Grant service obligation you agree to meet as a condition for receiving
a TEACH Grant.
You must complete TEACH Grant counseling each year that you receive a TEACH Grant
before you sign an Agreement to Serve (ATS) for that year.
Completing the Agreement to Serve (ATS)
Students must complete an electronic ATS via the ATS Web site each year that he or she is scheduled to receive a TEACH Grant award. If the student does not complete the ATS, the student will not be eligible for the TEACH Grant. The Online Counseling Session or the counseling session provided by the institution must be completed before a student can complete the ATS. Students can complete the ATS at https://teach-ats.ed.gov/ats/expect.action. In order to complete the ATS, a student will be required to use his or her U.S. Department of Education issued PIN. (This is the same PIN that is used to fill out the FAFSA.) The signing of the ATS each year prevents the TEACH Grant from becoming a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.
Online Counseling Session Requirement
To begin your TEACH counseling online, go to https://teach-ats.ed.gov/ats/index.action and click on "My TEACH Grant" in the left hand navigation bar. You will be taken
to the My TEACH Grant Login page and required to use your Federal Student Aid PIN
to login.
Once you login, click on START NEW COUNSELING to start your counseling session.
Before you begin the counseling, you will be asked to tell us:
The year for which you are receiving a TEACH Grant,
AND
The name and location of the school where you are receiving a TEACH Grant.
The online counseling session consists of a TEACH Grant Overview and three additional sections that cover the following topics in detail:
- Your TEACH Grant ATS
- Your Service Obligation
- Conversion of a TEACH Grant to a Loan.
Each section is followed by a section quiz.
We estimate that it will take 45 minutes to complete TEACH Grant counseling. If you wish to visit another part of the TEACH Grant Web site you may do so, and your progress will be saved. However, if you leave the TEACH Grant Web site or click the LOGOUT button you will have to start over from the beginning of the process.
Once you complete your TEACH Grant counseling, you may immediately complete your ATS or logout and complete your ATS at a later time.
