TEACH Grant - Frequently Asked Questions

A student can receive up to $4,000 in a given academic year to go towards the teach grant (up to $2,000 per semester) if a student is taking a summer course, the TEACH Grant can be used for that as well. Financial aid determines how much a student receives and they oversee disbursing that amount to student accounts. Dr. Lasley only handles initial contact with sending information to students on how to apply and making sure all application materials are completed.

If you receive a TEACH Grant but do not complete the required four years of teaching services within eight years after you complete (or otherwise cease to be enrolled in) the program for which you received the grant, all TEACH Grant funds you received will be converted to a Direct Unsubsidized Loan that you must repay with interest. Please make sure students want to teach for sure when they graduate before, they apply. I would hate for them to receive the grant for multiple semesters and then it all turns into a loan afterwards because they no longer want to teach.

Students must sign an agreement to serve to complete the steps for the teach grant. This is the final step after the grant gets disbursed to their account.

I work directly with Andrew Hartley in the office of financial aid, as he is the person who oversees reviewing student accounts and disbursing award amounts.

Once a student completes the steps that are sent by Dr. Lasley, their information will be sent to the financial aid office, and they will take over their accounts from there.

If transfer students have questions about the grant,  please have them reach out to Dr. Lasley as well. All students must be accepted into the school of teacher education before applying for the TEACH Grant.

You can only use the TEACH Grant to help cover your tuition.

You must be a sophomore student or higher and you can also be a master’s degree student as well in order to qualify. This is just one of the qualifications. You cannot apply for the TEACH Grant as a freshman.

Yes, you can still apply, and you will receive a refund check or financial aid will use the TEACH grant to replace a student loan if there is one listed on your student account.

You will need to schedule a meeting with Andrew Hartley in the office of financial aid as he helps oversee the TEACH Grant and is also works with study abroad as well. You will need to set up a study abroad counseling session with him and you must be taking classes related to your degree in order to use the grant.
