Business Essentials for Contractors


Welcome to Business Essentials for Contractors. This continuing education program includes mini-courses on key areas of business for contractors operating small and mid-sized businesses. Participants successfully passing each course will earn a verifiable badge that can serve as documentation of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for the Warren County Contractors Licensing Board education requirements. Each mini-course earns 1 hour of CEU credit.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the mission and goals of the Warren County Contractors Licensing Board.
  • Access and obtain applicable permitting, licensing, and inspection requirements for your projects in the region.

  • Understand the responsibility for general contractors, including sub-contractor's work.

Dr. Shane Spiller is a professor of management. He started at WKU in 2006, and was promoted to full professor in 2018.  He completed his Ph.D at the University of Alabama. He has won teaching awards at three universities, including WKU’s MBA teaching award and the Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year, and was the GFCB’s first Hays Watkins Teaching Fellow.

Holly Warren serves as the Executive Director of the Bowling Green - Warren County Contractors Licensing Board. With a deep-rooted passion for construction industry regulation, Holly efficiently oversees licensing procedures, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.

Scott Hunt is the Chief Building Inspector for the Building Division within the esteemed city of Bowling Green. Scott leads the Bowling Green Building Division team that issues building and electrical permits for new construction, remodeling, additions, alterations, and occupancy changes.

Craig Hunt is the Warren County Building Inspector, and enforces the Kentucky Building/Residential Codes and National Electric Code for the region's construction landscape.
