First-Time Freshmen Scholarships

To be considered for these scholarships, first-time freshmen students must plan to enroll full-time at WKU in the Summer or Fall semester of 2024, which requires a complete application with the Admissions Office.

Academic scholarships at Western Kentucky University are awarded through the Office of Student Financial Assistance. A wide variety of scholarships are available for first-time freshmen, current students and transfer students.

Should you have questions about Scholarships, the Office of Student Financial Assistance will be your main contact in receiving help (we in the MHC Office of course will help, but the Office of Student Financial Assistance will be the main/first point).

In addition to the scholarships that are awarded by the University based on academic merit, there are numerous scholarships that are awarded by the College Heights Foundation through private funds established by alumni and friends, academic departments or programs throughout the University, or by community organizations and professional associations.

To be eligible for any of these awards, each scholar must submit their TOPDollar Scholarship Application annually by February 1.

The Mahurin Honors College is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within our student body. This scholarship is open to full-time, undergraduate students in the College who contribute to the diversity of the campus community through race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability/disability status, religion, geographic background, socioeconomic status (i.e. Pell Grant Eligible), family educational background (first-generation status), etc. Priority is given to those with demonstrated financial need.

This application can be found in the TOPDollar Scholarship Portal (mentioned above).

Deadline: January 1, 2024 (If you have found this after the deadline, please email nina.marijanovic@wku.edu.  While we cannot guarantee that funds are available, we do like to have a list of those who are in need in case the financial outlook changes.)

Students must have active membership status in The Mahurin Honors College to be eligible for this award or to have applied for honors admission consideration (if you are an incoming first-year student).

If a student decides to withdraw from The Mahurin Honors College after receiving this award, they will forfeit their award monies for the semester in which they withdrew and may owe money to return to the scholarship fund.

Current Mahurin Honors College scholars in good standing are eligible to apply for a variety of grants to support out-of-classroom experiences, including but not limited to: study abroad, research, travel to academic conferences and internships. Review available grants and awards here.
