The state currently does not require applicants pursuing licensure to have graduated with a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)-accredited master’s degree; but may require a graduate degree in a related field. However, WKU's curriculum does necessitate this state’s requirement for 36-01 (1) "Supervision may be conducted either in person or via a HIPAA-compliant technological medium;" (15) "Specific training to diagnose, assess and treat serious problems’’ (as defined by "those disorders as categorized in standard diagnostic nomenclature such as the DSM with the exception of codes assigned to normal lifecycle transitional conflicts.)" “‘Group supervision’’ means a regularly scheduled meeting of not more than six (6) supervisees, and an approved supervisor, for a minimum of two (2) hours."

Additional requirements for state licensure may include background checks, official transcripts, fees, additional coursework, training, experience, and board examination results.
