The state currently does not require applicants pursuing licensure to have graduated with a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)-accredited master’s degree; but may require a graduate degree in a related field. However, WKU's curriculum does necessitate this state’s requirement for 27CSR1 "Supervised internship: includes actual on-the-job counseling experience under the tutelage of an on-site supervisor who is a licensed professional counselor or related mental health professional."

Additional requirements for state licensure may include background checks, official transcripts, fees, additional coursework, training, experience, and board examination results. For more details about this state’s counselor licensure requirements and board contact information, please visit the state’s website at https://wvbec.org/.
