The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU hosted 159 campers for the 31st annual Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students (SCATS) from June 9 to June 23.
Located on the campus of Western Kentucky University, SCATS provides enhanced learning opportunities for academically talented sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
This summer, young people from 43 Kentucky school districts, two Kentucky private schools, two Kentucky Diocese, two home schools and ten states across the country participated in 27 challenging courses.
Students chose the four classes they attended daily at the two-week camp. The Center offered a diverse curriculum encompassing music, science, art, math, history, and acting with classes including The Hunger Games, Magically Miraculous Math, Clowning, Pop Culture, Fair and Impartial Justice, Plants and the Ecosystem, Creative Ceramics and more.
Outside the classroom, residential campers participated in a variety of engaging activities, such as musical performances, sports matches, dances, and a talent show.
The dates for the 32nd year of SCATS are June 8 to June 20, 2014 with the application becoming available in mid-January.
