BB&T Speaker Series: "The Locavore's Dilemma: In Praise of the 10,000 Mile Diet"
- Wednesday, September 4th, 2013
Pierre Desrochers, Associate Professor of geography at the University of Toronto, will speak at Western Kentucky University on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as part of the BB&T Center for the Study of Capitalism lecture series.
Desroches will provide a lecture on his book “The Locavore’s Dilemma: In Praise of the 10,000 Mile Diet” in Grise Hall Auditorium beginning at 8 p.m.
Desroches and co-author Hiroko Shimizu provide a critical view of the local food movement. They argue that advances in agriculture production and technology has improved our food quality, safety, and price. The provocative book encourages a more holistic approach to growing, purchasing, and distributing food.
The BB&T Center for the Study of Capitalism is housed in the Gordon Ford College Business and is committed to educating students, faculty, and the general public about capitalism. The lecture is sponsored by the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation, the BB&T Charitable Foundation, and the Department of Economics.
