- Wednesday, February 19th, 2014
The Gordon Ford College of Business is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014 Capps-Wurster Scholarship as Mr. Adam Pendry and Mr. Heins Velastegui Intriago.
Adam came to WKU on a swimming scholarship, earning his undergraduate degree in Economics. He currently is in the Master of Applied Economics (MAE) program. In addition to his studies in the MAE program, he provides support for incoming students through his work with the Office of International Studies. Adam is from Ontario, Canada.
Heins is currently pursuing a degree in International Business. In addition to his coursework, he is actively involved in the college’s support group for exchange students. He also works with the Office of International Studies and part-time for the Baker Arboretum. Heins is from Ecuador.
The Capps-Wurster Scholarship is made possible through a gift from WKU graduate Mr. Zuheir Sofia, who wished to honor longtime WKU educators and mentors Dr. Randy Capps and Mr. Robert Wurster. Mr. Sofia was an international student from Syria who graduated from WKU with degrees in economics and business administration in 1969. Mr. Sofia was inducted in the WKU Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 1998 and was awarded the first Honorary Doctor in Business Leadership in December 2013.
“Zuheir Sofia is an incredible example of the power of education in a person’s life and is a tremendous role model for our students, faculty, and staff” said GFCB Dean Jeffrey Katz. “We are pleased to be able to assist international students through his generous gifts.”
