Finance Student Wins National Scholarship
- Wednesday, July 15th, 2015
Haley Burgin, a senior finance major from Lawrenceburg, Ky, has been selected to receive a $5,000 NextGen Scholarship from TD Ameritrade to continue her studies in financial planning.
Haley is one of 10 students selected for the scholarship and will travel to New York City July 21-23 for an exciting day visiting the New York Stock Exchange, where they will walk the trading floor and help ring the closing bell.
“I cannot put into words how extremely blessed and grateful I am to be given this opportunity,” she said. “As I am paying my own way through college, I rely heavily on scholarships.”
Haley was selected as the 2015 Gordon Ford College of Business Outstanding Junior in Finance because of her outstanding scholarship in the area.
“Haley exemplifies dedication in her pursuit of a career in the financial planning profession,” said professor Andrew Head. “She will be an excellent ambassador for both the WKU Financial Planning Program and the TD Ameritrade Institutional NextGen Scholarship.”
As a woman in a male-dominated industry, Haley hopes to bring some diversity to the field and inspire more women to pursue financial planning as a career.
“I have always loved the idea of helping others with their finances,” she said. “It is a powerful feeling not to have your life controlled by money, and I can’t wait to see the relief I can hopefully bring to those who are so overwhelmed.”
This is the third year of the NextGen Scholarship and Grant Program sponsored by TD Ameritrade, who wants to attract talented students to the financial planning profession.
