Accountants Can Earn Professional Education Credits

Accountants in Kentucky and Tennessee can earn up to eight hours of Continuing Professional Education credits for participating in the WKU CPE Program for Accountants, sponsored by the Gordon Ford College of Business’ Department of Accounting.
The day-long CPE program will take place on Friday, April 21 in the Augenstein Alumni Center, located on WKU’s campus. The full-day program begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Participants can also register for a half-day program. Registration costs include a light breakfast, a lunch buffet, and light refreshments throughout the day.
“The Department of Accounting is pleased to offer this method to assist practicing accountants meet their mandatory CPE requirements,” said Dr. Harold Little, department chair. “The day-long program is designed to provide current, relevant information to practitioners with a small investment of their time and money.”
Four speakers presenting on a variety of topics highlight the day.
Kinney Poynter, the Executive Director for the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers, and Treasurers, will discuss “Emerging Issues in Government Accounting and Auditing.”
Emily Drumwright Garrett is a senior manager of public accounting for Ernst & Young in Nashville and will share “An A & A Update.”
Dennis Dycus, retired from the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury for the State of Tennessee brings three topics to accountants: “Why Auditors Fail to Detect Fraud,” “Internal Controls,” and “Pros and Cons of Cloud Computing.”
Larry Howlett, a private CPA firm owner with 30 years of experience with the Internal Revenue Service will discuss “Some Principles of Exempt Organizations.”
“The CPE Program for Accountants is an important initiative that recognizes the importance of lifelong learning,” said Dr. Jeffrey Katz, Dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business. “As an applied College of Business accredited in business and accounting by AACSB International, we take pride in providing programs that extend the educational value chain to include alumni and professionals.”
