High school juniors and seniors in Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound have been invited to WKU’s campus for an event on April 26. ETS and UB serve students in Allen, Barren, Butler, Cumberland, Edmonson, Simpson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe and Warren counties.

At the event, TRIO seniors will have the opportunity to seek advice from college professors and college students about what to expect in college and how to be a successful college student. Participants will also learn about important campus services, including the Career and Professional Development Center and the Academic Advising and Retention Center.  Seniors will also receive certificates for participating in Educational Talent Search and a graduation gift during a ceremony at Gary Ransdell Hall.

TRIO juniors will participate in a college fair in the Downing Student Union, where representatives from 14 colleges and universities will be available to answer questions and share information. Participants will also enjoy a WKU campus tour led by WKU Spirit Masters, and a team-building workshop facilitated by WKU students from Student Activities and Organizations.

TRIO programs target student populations that are under-represented in postsecondary education, and events like this one help to get students acquainted with college campuses and prepared for the academic and personal growth they will experience by pursuing a postsecondary degree. 

TRIO Programs are federally funded and offer assistance in college enrollment to qualified students in middle school and high school, as well as adult and veteran learners.
