WKU’s Board of Regents today (April 28) approved tuition and mandatory student fees for the 2018 fiscal year.

Resident undergraduate tuition will increase $145 per semester (3 percent) to $5,101. Nonresident undergraduate tuition will increase $360 per semester to $12,756.

Ann Mead, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, said the tuition increase is needed to address projected fixed cost increases and selected strategic priorities.

Regents also approved consolidating the departments of Engineering, Architectural and Manufacturing Sciences and Computer Science into the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Provost David Lee said the synergy created by combining the departments would lead to the creation of new programs and better serve students and the region.

“These departments have significant potential to partner with regional industry and develop partnerships that support academics through work on joint projects to solve real world problems,” he said.

The new school would allow departments to share resources and improve efficiency.

The Board also:

• Approved amended contracts with Head Volleyball Coach Travis Hudson, Head Women’s Soccer Coach Jason Neidell and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Michelle Clark-Heard.
• Approved staff emeritus status for Patricia May Johnson, who retired from the Division of Information Technology after 27 years. This is the first staff emeritus appointment at WKU.
