Nearly 400 Advanced Placement teachers from 17 states participated in a one-week professional development opportunity at WKU June 26-30.
Teachers participated in training in 20 content areas and in 27 workshops. Separate workshops were offered for beginning Advanced Placement teachers and for teachers with experience teaching Advanced Placement courses.
This summer, 398 teachers from 70 Kentucky school districts, three Kentucky private schools, five Kentucky Diocese, and 17 states participated in the weeklong institute.
Consultants for the Advanced Placement Institute reside in 16 states, and they are Advanced Placement exams readers and table leaders as well as writers of texts. Their expertise is valued by participants.
Dr. Julia Roberts, Executive Director of The Center for Gifted Studies, said: “Bringing teachers from numerous states to prepare for a new academic year of offering Advanced Placement courses is an honor. I am pleased that teachers from so many states joined us for this outstanding professional development.”
This summer is the 34th year that The Center for Gifted Studies has offered the Advanced Placement Summer Institute. Advanced Placement courses are developed and offered by the College Board.
The dates for the 35th AP Institute are June 25 to June 29, 2018, and the application will be available in mid-January through The Center’s website at https://www.wku.edu/gifted/.
