The WKU Alumni Association has selected five incoming freshmen as Alumni Leadership Scholars for the fall. The recipients will each receive a four-year renewable scholarship which, thanks to private support from alumni, was increased from one $1,000 to $2,000 per student per year.

The recipients are:

• Emily Cox of Willisburg.
• Hudson Curry of Science Hill.
• Destinee Daugherty of Owensboro.
• Allen Engle of Richmond.
• Elizabeth Medley of Springfield.

“It was an extremely competitive scholarship process,” said Allie Sharp, Coordinator of Student & Young Alumni Engagement. “We had about 230 applicants and narrowed it down to 10 people to interview. Of that 10, five were chosen.”

Established in 1983, the Alumni Leadership Scholars is a scholarship program coordinated by the WKU Alumni Association that funds awards for 24 students through an endowment housed in the College Heights Foundation. Recipients must remain in good standing with the University and commit to engagement with the organization, including attending monthly meetings and volunteering within the Bowling Green community.

“It’s a fun way for recipients to get to know students across campus that they may not have gotten to know otherwise,” Sharp said.

Chartered in 1913, the WKU Alumni Association works to “involve all members of the WKU Family in the life of the institution,” and encourages alumni to develop strong ties with each other and the University through an engaging mix of programs, activities and events. Currently, more than 110,000 WKU alumni live around the globe. The continued success of the Alumni Association and the University depends on the commitment of time, energy and resources from alumni and friends.
