- Monday, April 13th, 2009
The 2009 Health Fair participation was up this year compared to the last two health fairs (about 70 more that 2008 and about 30 more than 2007). The number of employees who took advantage of the free blood draws given by Health Services was down this year compared to previous years (352 participants in 2009, 378 participants in 2008, and 369 participants in 2007). The blood work tested employees cholesterol (LDL, HDL), triglycerides and glucose. Additional free blood work was offered to females 40 and older: Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and for males 45 and older: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA). Doug Newton, Employee Wellness Manager will generate a report on all the Health Promotion Trifecta in May after all the activities are finished.
This year, in order to be eligible for the door prize drawing, participants had to list the top three "health topics, screeings, vendors, or elements of the health fair that best helped increase their awareness of some dimension of their health and well-being." 590 health fair particiaption cards were collected. Health Services ranked second, written in by 109 people. Nursing students/blood pressure was first with 161.
Kudos to Health Services for being ranked second by participants who listed health topics or vendors who helped them increase their awareness of some dimension of their health and well-being!!!
