• View from the Hill: Professor receives grant for Service Dog Awareness Program: Dr. Darbi Haynes-Lawrence, a WKU faculty member who has Multiple Sclerosis, has received a grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund to support her Service Dog Awareness Program. It’s a lesson on service dog etiquette as Amy Bingham explains in this View from the Hill.
• Drakes Creek Middle School receives WKU Libraries School Library Grant: Drakes Creek Middle School Library was recognized on Thursday for being this year’s winner for the School Library Grant sponsored by the Friends of WKU Libraries. This is the fourth year WKU Libraries has offered the grant to schools in the Barren River Area Development District.
• Chatting with Chumbler: First day jitters: Dr. Neale Chumbler, dean of WKU’s College of Health and Human Services, headed back to class this week for a Gourmet Foods class at WKU.
• Board of Regents to hold committee meetings today: The committees of the WKU Board of Regents will meet at 9 a.m. today in the Martin Regents Room of Jody Richards Hall.
• She Got to “Y”: Novelist Sue Grafton published her first “alphabet” mystery, A is For Alibi, in 1982.  At the time of her death in December 2017, the native of Louisville had penned 25 best-selling titles, most recently Y is for Yesterday, and both Grafton and Kinsey Millhone, her fictional “hard-boiled” female detective and heroine of the series, had earned a worldwide following.  Grafton, who attended WKU for two years, had long known that her finale, slated to appear in fall 2019, would be called Z is for Zero.
• 2018 Winter Weather Communications Plan: Check out a reminder about WKU’s winter weather communications plan that provides a number of ways you can find out if classes are delayed, canceled or if a campus is closed.
• WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. • Women’s basketball: WKU Continues Road Trip at North Texas This Evening: Coming off an 86-66 win at Marshall to begin its longest road trip of C-USA play this season, WKU will remain away from home at 7 tonight as the Lady Toppers battle North Texas inside The Super Pit in their second of three games away from E.A. Diddle Arena.
• Football: Senior Bowl Provides More Opportunities for Mike White: As former WKU quarterback Mike White continues his week of practice at the 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl, one of the best opportunities comes off the field: the chance to be seen by scouts, general managers, and coaches from across the National Football League.
• Track & Field: WKU Headed for IU Relays, A-State Invitational: WKU Track and Field will hit the road this weekend with a majority of the squad heading for the Hoosier State to compete at the Indiana University Relays. With a personal-record performance last weekend in his first sprint race in over six months, Julius Morris will travel to the A-State Invitational and Multis hosted by Arkansas State in search of another big showing.
• Tennis: Lady Toppers to Play Two Matches in Louisville: Lady Topper Tennis will stay in the Commonwealth this weekend as WKU plays its first conference opponent of the season in a neutral site match in Louisville against UTEP on Saturday. On Sunday, the Red and White will face off against the Cardinals on their home court at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Both matches are slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT.

• WKU Prism Concert to showcase music department ensembles: WKU’s annual Prism Concert distinguishes itself from other ensemble performances with a setup that allows performers’ music to come at the audience from all directions. Gary Schallert, director of bands at WKU, said the Prism Concert brings together a host of different groups within the school’s music department.
