The Lady Toppers and Hilltoppers will be in action tonight at E.A. Diddle Arena as part of a doubleheader. Lady Toppers vs. Old Dominion at 5:30 followed by Hilltoppers vs. FAU at 7:30.

  • Life-changing impact of teachers celebrated at Hall of Fame induction: Family members, friends and former students celebrated the life-changing impact of three outstanding teachers Tuesday (Feb. 6) at the Capitol Rotunda during the induction of the 10th class of the Governor Louie B. Nunn Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame. The 2018 inductees, chosen by the statewide selection committee, were Gloria K. Compton of Lexington, the late Ronald Montgomery of Louisville and the late Mattie Jo Smith of Benton.
  • Black History Month Salute: Marie Mennefield: This month, we're highlighting the work of African American faculty, staff, students and alumni who make a difference each day at WKU. Today, we focus on Marie Mennefield, junior and Social Chair for Black Women of Western.
  • Vision achieved: Energy efficiency-focused lab delivers research, business experience: Think of the everyday products, including appliances, you use around your home. They’ve likely evolved compared to older versions — more sophisticated functionality, for example, or a sleeker, more efficient design. Applied research often drives these changes, including the research happening at WKU’s Energy Systems Lab. Under the leadership of lab director Farhad Ashrafzadeh, Ph.D., undergraduate students and lab staff create new product prototypes and market features for existing products and develop custom testbeds for industrial research labs.
  • Ethnobotanist and researcher Dr. Paul Alan Cox speaks at WKU on Feb. 13: Ethnobotanist and researcher Dr. Paul Alan Cox will be speaking at Van Meter Hall on Tuesday (Feb. 13) at 7:30 p.m. CST as part of WKU’s Cultural Enhancement Series. Prior to his keynote speech, he will be having an open Q&A Session at 1 p.m. in Snell Hall 1108.
  • Strategic Planning Committee to hold forums on Feb. 12-13: WKU’s Strategic Planning Committee will host the following open forums Feb. 12-13.
  • Kentucky Live! presents Mary Ellen Pethel, “College Life and the Making of Modern Nashville”: Kentucky Live! will present Mary Ellen Pethel on College Life and the Making of Modern Nashville at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Barnes & Noble, 1680 Campbell Lane. More: Read more from the WKU Libraries Blog.
  • 2018 Winter Weather Communications Plan: Check out a reminder about WKU’s winter weather communications plan that provides a number of ways you can find out if classes are delayed, canceled or if a campus is closed.
  • WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff.   • Football: Hilltoppers Wrap Up Historic Recruiting Class: With 13 signees already inked from December's first-ever Early Signing Period, WKU Football added to its already record-setting class as 10 future Hilltoppers signed their national letters of intent on Wednesday. "It was a great day today," Sanford said. "The ink's drying on what I believe to be a historic signing class and a historic day for Western Kentucky Football. I think the star ratings are what they are and certain people put a lot of emphasis, a lot of value on that. I don't know I put much emphasis on that whatsoever, but I do know we signed a historic class for this university."
  • Women’s basketball: WKU Squares Off Against Old Dominion This Evening: WKU will open a tough weekend of C-USA action this evening at 5:30 inside E.A. Diddle Arena, hosting Old Dominion for the eighth meeting between the two sides since the 2014-15 campaign. The Lady Toppers have claimed wins in each of the first seven tilts.
  • Men’s basketball: Hilltoppers Host Florida Atlantic Tonight: WKU Hilltopper Basketball is tied for second in Conference USA heading into a home game against Florida Atlantic at 7:30 tonight at E.A. Diddle Arena. The game is the nightcap of a doubleheader with the women's team and is scheduled to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Lady Toppers' contest.

WKU in the News

  • Tops looking to get back on track, host FAU tonight: WKU will have a new look about it tonight. Well, one of its star players might, anyway. If freshman Taveion Hollingsworth tries to play it will be with a mask on his face to protect a broken nose suffered Saturday in a loss at Texas San Antonio. Second-year WKU coach Rick Stansbury said the guard will have to adjust on the fly.
  • Lady Toppers relying on consistency from Givens, Bopp: WKU has won five straight Conference USA games, partly due to the consistency of Dee Givens and Sidnee Bopp off the bench. The next step for either player, Lady Toppers coach Michelle Clark-Heard said, is keeping that trend going.
