Erick Murrer Jr. is the first WKU student selected as a Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellow, one of the most competitive and prestigious programs offered by the U.S. Department of State.

- WKU Forensics Team wins NFA national speech and debate titles: The WKU Forensics Team won both the National Forensic Association National Tournament championship and the National Forensic Association Lincoln-Douglas Debate Team Sweepstakes national championship, hosted this year by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh over the April 20-24 weekend.
- Economics Student Selected for Prestigious Pickering Fellowship: WKU senior Erick Murrer Jr., of Nancy has been selected as a Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellow, one of the most competitive and prestigious programs offered by the U.S. Department of State. Murrer is a Mahurin Honors College student and a double major in Economics and Chinese.
- WKU recognized among Gilman Scholarship top producers: WKU has been named a 2016-17 top producer of Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. WKU is tied for 26th among more than 100 institutions nationwide with more than 15,000 undergraduates. This is the first time Gilman top-producing institutions have been recognized.
- Longtime WKU partner Graves Gilbert Clinic supports Investiture Ceremony: Graves Gilbert Clinic, based in Bowling Green, is a longtime WKU corporate partner. Since 1989, the Clinic, which has locations in eight southern Kentucky counties, has supported various University programs, with the most recent donation coming through the full sponsorship of President Timothy C. Caboni’s Investiture Ceremony.
- WKU Alumni Association holds Alumni Volunteer Summit and awards reception: Friday was a busy day at the Augenstein Alumni Center (AAC). More than 30 Alumni Association volunteers from 12 area Alumni Chapters and Groups gathered for the first-ever Alumni Volunteer Summit, where they learned how their volunteerism benefits the WKU Alumni Association, shared best practices and current activities with individual chapters, and were appreciated for their generosity. - Paul Miles Receives KHIMA WKU Outstanding Student Award: Paul Miles, a graduating senior in WKU’s Health Information Management program, was selected as the Kentucky Health Information Management Association (KHIMA) WKU Outstanding Student for 2018.
- A Closer Look at Electro-Etching: Four senior mechanical engineering students have been working to optimize electro-etching under the counsel of Dr. Morteza Nurcheshmeh for their senior project. - Attention WKU students: It's time to complete course evaluations: Attention WKU students: Please visit wku.evaluationkit.com to complete your Spring 2018 course evaluations. Students completing all course evaluations by May 3 will receive early access to grades on TopNet.
- Strategic Planning Committee open forum May 2: WKU’s Strategic Planning Committee will host its final open forum from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 2 at the Rick and Ann Guillaume Auditorium, Grise Hall 235.

- Men’s golf: Hilltoppers Conclude Season with Best Conference Tourney Round Since 2008: Four WKU golfers fired their best round of the 2018 Conference USA Championship on Tuesday, completing the day with a 2-over 290 team total. The Hilltoppers improved by 10 strokes from their second round and finished ninth as a team with an 894 (304-300-290) tally. The top four teams will decide the team champion in match play.
- Baseball: Brown Collects 3 Hits, Toppers Edged by Cardinals: For the second time this year, WKU Baseball was edged by in-state rival Louisville, this time by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium. Luke Brown went 3-for-4 for his 11th multi-hit game in his past 17 starts, raising his batting average from .195 to .319 in that span. Next: WKU hosts Louisiana Tech for a Friday-to-Sunday series.

- Take Back the Night march Thursday spotlights sexual assault: Bowling Green’s annual Take Back the Night march will begin at 6 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1106 State St., and end at 7 p.m. after a march through the downtown area. The event will include speakers from Hope Harbor and the WKU Counseling and Testing Center.
- Hilltoppers Serve as Mentors at Local Elementary School: Fifteen years ago, Dishman-McGinnis Elementary guidance counselor Angie Slocum started a mentorship program. The program now has 90 mentors that visit on a weekly to biweekly basis to spend time with students at the school. Some of those mentors include players from WKU’s football team.
