Tyler Jury, WKU student and founder with the Fijis Across America approached Health Services with fundraiser information in hopes they would support this student initiative. Health Services was very impressed with the level of professionalism shown by Tyler and his friends and made a comittment to support and sponsor the FIJIS. Tyler is passionate about the fundraiser and is honored to be riding in memory of his grandfather Barrett Cummings. The students will ride about 3,200 miles beginning in California and ending in Virginia. (Click here for the route.) The students have been working for several months to organize the ride, which is scheduled to begin in late May.
Tyler and his friends have joined together and have set a goal of raising $75,000 to benefit the Greater Kentucky/Southern Indiana Alzheimer's Association Chapter. The money raised will be used to help increase local, state, and national awareness. Last fall, riders attended Alzheimer's Association Memory Walks in cities across Kentucky, including Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, Louisville, and Lexington, to promote the trip. The group is still seeking corporate and individal sponsorships.
In addition to Tyler, riders include Chaz Vittitow of Louisville, Mitchell White of Bowling Green, Justin Cave of Glendale and Wade Haga of Lexington.
