Situational Awareness Presentation Overview 2010

Megan Paschall, Medical Office Associate updated staff members on the Situational Awareness presentation given by SGT. Rafel Casas, WKUPD. The presentation highlighted the importance of being aware of your surroundings when on campus, traveling alone, at home, in a parking lot and other general safety measures to consider.
TIPS TO REMEMBER:
On Campus
Be aware of your surroundings
Program WKUPD phone number in your cell - 745-2548
Know location of WKU Emergency Call Boxes
Campus Escort Service - 745-3333 (campus only)
Travel Safety
Plan trip in advance and use GPS or map
Plan stops accordingly
Let others know where you are going and call when you arrive
If your car breaks down be careful who you let help you. Call Safe Patrol 1-877-367-5982 (6am - 10pm) for help on interstate and parkways
Out-of-state travels should find out in advance if they have an interstae patrol for roadside assistance
Keep safety kit in care.
Parking Lot Safety
Scan area when you park
Don't park in back of lot
Look under your car when you approach it. If something looks suspicious keep walking
Put items in trunk before leaving location
Home Safety
Have keep ready when approaching house
Keep bushes trimmed for clear visibility
Program lights to come on at dusk or use sensored lighting
If you see a strange car parked near your house keep driving
Take pictures of serial #'s and log all valuables
Purchase renter/home insurance
