Laboratory Information System added to WKU HS lab

On Wednesday, July 21, WKU Health Services went "live" with Harvest, a laboratory information system (LIS). In an increasingly complex medical world, an LIS has become an integral part of growing laboratories. An LIS helps manage laboratory data, which includes results, quality control, and data mining and reports. WKUHS has been working closely with Orchard (the LIS designer), Allscripts (our Electronic Health Records (EHR) developer), and Quest Diagnostics (our primary testing laboratory) to implement a data exchange that seamlessly links all three systems and WKUHS's laboratory equipment, such as our hematology and urinalysis analyzers.

At WKU Health Services, we provide a full-coverage CLIA compliant laboratory. To aid in our patient service, the entire WKU HS clinical staff has been trained on various components of this system. Patients and providers alike can feel confident they are receiving the highest quality results and reports. Harvest manages in-house and send-out testing, improves the ease of ordering while maintaining a safeguard on patient demographics, and expedites the delivery of test results for patients who have brought in lab orders from other physicians.
