Several members of the WKU Health Services staff attended ACE.11 in Nashville, TN. ACE.11 is the annual Allscripts Client Experience where users of the popular elecronic health records (EHR) system meet with the product developers and vendors to learn to better leverage their products and talents to meet not only the needs of their organizations, but the increasing needs of the health care industry itself. EHR's are on the leading edge of emerging heath information technology (HIT) and the drive to drive down health care costs by increasing the availability of personal health information (PHI).
This year's keynote speakers were Glen Tulman, Allscripts CEO and Dean Kamen, widely viewed as one of the greatest inventors of our time.
Dean Kamen holds more than 440 patents, with breakthroughs in healthcare, such as the first wearable infusion pump, home hemodialysis and advanced prosthetic arms, and in everyday life, including the Segway®! He spoke about his invention of FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a national robotics competition he started with the goal to make science and technology as cool and as celebrated in our culture as sports and entertainment.
