Caryn E. Lindsay joined the Study Abroad & Global Learning team in 2016, coming from Minnesota State Mankato where she served as Director of International Programs. Dr. Lindsay earned a Ph.D. from the Comparative and International Development Education (CIDE) program at the University of Minnesota. Her dissertation was titled Responding to Growing Diversity: a Case Study of Mankato, Minnesota. Her research interests focus on cultural competence and prejudice reduction.

Lindsay received her B.A. from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN where she double majored in German and International Studies and was selected for the first cohort of Aquinas Scholars. Between undergraduate and graduate studies, Lindsay spent five semesters studying history and political science at the Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelms University in Bonn, Germany, eventually earning her M.A. in Development Studies from Ohio University.

Lindsay began her career as a Foreign Service officer with the U.S. Information Agency and served in Santiago, Chile. She transferred to the Civil Service and continued to work in educational and cultural affairs for the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and New York City.

At Minnesota State Mankato, she taught an Honors course on global citizenship and co-led short-term programs to Nicaragua and New Zealand. She is proficient in German and Spanish, speaks Albanian at an intermediate level, and can read and understand elementary French and Italian.

Lindsay enjoys traveling to places of historical significance, meeting new people, reading, and watching movies, plays and sports. One of her most valued experiences was the year she lived in Prishtina, Kosovo, volunteering with a women's center.
