Technology Guidelines
Since this is an online course, your computer should meet the recommended technology
guidelines listed below. We are committed to the accessibility of online courses.
With each application and tool listed below, we have included information and resources
regarding accessibility.
General Requirements
- A processor of 2.4 GHz or faster
- 4 GB RAM or higher - Computer memory is directly affected by how many programs are running at any given time. Running multiple applications at once slows a computer’s performance
- A High-speed internet connection (1.5 Mbps upload and download required; 5 Mbps or better preferred)
- Monitor and video card with 1024 X 768 or greater resolution
- Speakers/Headphones and a Microphone
Internet Browser
- We recommend using the latest version ofGoogle Chrome. Other Internet browsers include Firefox, Edge, and Safari.
Blackboard
If you are not familiar with Blackboard, please enroll and complete the Blackboard Student User Training Course. To access the course login to Blackboard, click on the My WKU Bb tab, and locate and click on the link ITS: Blackboard Student User Training. You will have immediate access to the training upon enrollment. It is self-paced and should take no more than 90 minutes to complete. Pay particular attention to “How to Submit Assignments.”
Blackboard functions better in some internet browsers. To see if you are using the best browser, go to the Blackboard Login Page. At the bottom of the page, there is a Compatibility Check status bar that will let you know whether the browser you are using is compatible with Blackboard.

Software
Microsoft Office - You will be expected to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for your courses. Microsoft Office is available for all students via Office 365. If you are not familiar with the functions of Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint, this Microsoft Office support page contains tutorials for all the applications.
Adobe Reader is a desktop application that will allow you to open PDF documents.

You may be using Mediasite to view instructor lecture videos for this course. Refer to the Mediasite Viewing Requirements to determine if your computer has the necessary components to view the videos.
