Ellie Young is a 2020 graduate of the MPA program. She earned her undergraduate degree in political science from WKU (Class of 2019) and got a head start on her graduate studies through the MPA JUMP program. As an undergraduate, she was active in a number of campus activities and served as the president of WKU’s Young Democrats for two years. Currently, Ellie is a Program Compliance Specialist at Children's Advocacy Centers of Kentucky.

Ellie believes that her political science major developed analytical skills that help her make connections between public policy, institutional structures and processes, and how they impact the public. Being able to make these connections, along with an internship with Congresswoman Katherine Clark in Washington D.C., fueled her interest in pursuing an MPA.

Ellie’s long-term professional goal is to become a City Manager and be involved in making decisions that have a direct, positive impact on her community.  “My goal is to utilize the skills acquired from my major in political science and MPA at the local level to make decisions that shape policies that have a positive difference in the community in which I live.”
