Madelynn Einhorn is a Political Science major from Oakwood, Ohio. She is also majoring in Economics and pursuing a certificate in Geographic Information Systems. Currently, Madelynn serves as an economics tutor for the business college and is an active member of Western’s speech and debate team.

During her time on campus, Madelynn has completed numerous research projects with her mentor, Professor Timothy Rich. In addition to co-authoring policy pieces published in news outlets such as The Interpreter, The National Interest, International Policy Digest, and The Diplomat, Madelynn has also published an article in the academic journal, Global Taiwan Institute. Much of her research has focused on East Asian politics, including a project on how often South Koreans think about North Koreans. She is currently working on her Honors thesis.

On her research experience, she says “Dr. Rich has been an outstanding mentor who has helped me develop research and critical thinking skills. We’ve worked together on several research projects, I’ve worked as his research assistant, and we’ve attended conferences together. I have learned so many skills including networking, writing, data analysis, and communication.” A few of the accolades she has acquired throughout her research career include the 2020 WKU BB&T Center for the Study of Capitalism Research Fellowship, the 2020 Kentucky Political Science Association Outstanding Undergraduate Paper, and the 2021 WKU Reach Conference Session Paper Winner.

In addition to research and her involvement on campus, Madelynn has completed several internships. In 2018, she served as an intern to the John McManus campaign. In 2021, she interned for the North Korea Review and the Federal Reserve. After graduating from Western, she plans on attending graduate school in a program that combines her research and academic interests and hopes to someday work as a data scientist or in academia.
