WKU Student-to-student Resilient Refugee Navigator Program

Peer-to-peer mentors to support diplaced students at Western Kentucky University
We are seeking current students to assist refugees pursuing higher education at WKU as they navigate campus resources.
- Compensation: $8/hour
- Launching Spring 2023
This program will pair current students enrolled within the university with one to five displaced students. As the navigator in your pairing, you will be tasked with assisting the displaced students by:
- Making and attending advising appointments with the student
- Helping them to learn new technology such as Blackboard and Microsoft Word
- Monitoring and evaluating student progress (non-academic) through weekly reports
- Supporting other miscellaneous student needs
- When not working with assigned students, opportunities for communication, programming,
and off-campus school visits are also possible.
Navigators will report to staff in the office of Global Learning & International Affairs and are expected to attend monthly meetings.

Applicants must be in good academic standing.
This position pays $8 per hour.
This program will launch in January 2023 to support new students in the spring 2023 semester. Navigators would be working approximately 10-15 hours each week of the semester with eligibility for employment over the summer months dependent on program needs. Navigators would also be required to attend three mandatory, paid trainings to prepare for their role. Trainings will take an estimated six hours. Navigator student assignments will last for one semester, with a new cohort of students assigned each semester.
Honors College & International Center in the Global Learning and International Affairs office. Other locations on campus may be required based on the needs of each student.
