The Regional Chancellor of Western Kentucky University Elizabethtown-Fort Knox (WKU-E), Dr. Evelyn A. Ellis, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Royce Young to the position of academic advisor at Fort Knox.
A native-born “Buckeye” from Ohio, Mr. Young holds a Master’s of Arts Degree in Higher Education from the University of Akron and a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Geology, with a minor in climatology, from Kent State University. He was most recently employed as a guest champion at the Kent State University Holiday Inn Express and Suites. His previous employment as counselor, new student orientation intern, and research assistant, at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio; Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio; and the University of Akron, in Akron, Ohio, respectively, has prepared Mr. Young well to assume his new role serving WKU students at the Fort Knox site of the WKU Elizabethtown-Fort Knox Regional Campus.
Mr. Young was inspired to serve college and university students years ago when he himself was a student. He enthusiastically recounts, “I was grateful for the guidance that my academic advisors gave me. Their guidance helped empower me to make informed decisions about my education.” Now, he looks forward to working with the students at WKU Elizabethtown-Fort Knox and helping them become informed decision-makers who are confident in their educational choices.
In his new role, Mr. Young will work very closely with U.S. military education counselors housed at the Fort Knox Education Services Center and military units’ education liaisons, as well as with WKU academic advisors located at WKU’s campuses in Bowling Green, Glasgow, and Owensboro in addition to academic advisors at WKU’s partner institutions. He will also serve as the primary academic advisor for active duty, reserve, veteran, and retired military personnel, who are transferring to WKU or who are enrolled in online classes at WKU Elizabethtown-Fort Knox.
In his free time, Royce loves attending music concerts of all kinds, collecting Batman and Superman comic books, traveling, and watching professional wrestling. He also enjoys his pet African bullfrog, Fatty.
