Connie McNeil is graduating this week, earning a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in social and behavioral science. 

Returning to school can be intimidating, but when Connie reflected on her decision to enroll at Western Kentucky University, Connie mentioned her family. “I decided to go back to school while my boys were still attending middle and high school – and it has been a challenging but very rewarding experience,” said Connie. “I want them to see that an education is a valuable tool and that you are never too old to learn something new or to look for new opportunities.” 

Connie cited the student support among the highlights of her WKU experiences, stating that her “professors have been wonderful to work with and very accommodating to helping this non-traditional student adapt to online courses.”

Able to complete her degree while working full-time, she encourages others to consider online classes because of the additional flexibility the course format offers. “Do not be afraid to try online courses. They fit well in course schedules and the professors are always available to assist with any questions you may have.”

Connie advises future WKU Online students to “pay close attention to the syllabus and the course schedule – they are the key to reaching success.”
