This March, WKU will offer course in Faith Community Nursing (FCN), a specialized practice that combines professional nursing and health ministry through a holistic approach focused on preventing or minimizing illness.

Physical health is only one aspect of a person’s overall wellness. Spiritual, emotional, and psychological wellness also play a key role in a patient’s health and recovery. This course is designed to develop faith community nurses who have specialized skills to address their patients’ overall well-being.

The non-credit course is self-paced and 100% online, with asynchronous instructor support, allowing students to fit the program into their busy work and personal schedules.

“We are excited to offer this course in such an extremely flexible format to allow professional nurses to complete the program while balancing their professional and personal lives,” said Lifelong Learning Program Specialist April McCauley.

“With so many demands placed on nursing professionals, flexibility is vital,” she said.

The course is offered through a collaboration of WKU Department of Nursing & Allied Health and  WKU Continuing & Professional Development. Successful completion will be automatically recorded with the Westburg Institute which oversees the nationally-recognized FCN program. Students will also earn 4 CEUs from the Southcentral Kentucky Area Health Education Center (SCAHEC) upon program completion.

Registration is now open, and the course fee is $400. Instruction can be completed March 15-May 7, 2021. Students must be a licensed Registered Nurse to enroll.
