Elizabethtown, Kentucky – Future social workers can now apply for Fall 2023 admission into the WKU Social Work program at WKU in Elizabethtown. WKU faculty will teach select courses in-person at the Elizabethtown campus where students will have access to their faculty, on-site WKU in Elizabethtown student support staff, and WKU student amenities.
"Social work is a rewarding and challenging field for those interested in making a difference in the lives of others! We are pleased to offer this program option to our students in addition to our fully online and Bowling Green program options,” said Dr. Simon Funge, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program director.
“With busy schedules, working, managing households, and fulfilling other important responsibilities, it's important we give our students the flexibility they may need to be successful in our program.”
Through the WKU Social Work program, students work as a supportive cohort. Students progress through the program as a group, allowing them to work collaboratively as they earn their degree, graduate together, and enter the profession simultaneously with their already-established network of local peers.
Debbie Skala will graduate from WKU in Elizabethtown this May with a Social Work degree and says that studying alongside other students has added more understanding of others.
“Collaborating with other classmates allows us to learn more about the communities and people we will be serving. We learn about ourselves, too, as we talk with other people,” she said.
Social work is already a high-demand field, with 9% projected growth – faster than the average for all occupations – from 2021 to 2031, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Students must be admitted to WKU and then apply for acceptance into the BSW program. The deadline for applying to the WKU Social Work program is April 1.
Details about the application process are available on the BSW Applications Procedure page.
