WKU will confer degrees to more than 1,400 graduates in two ceremonies during its Fall 2015 Commencement on Dec. 12 at Diddle Arena.

In morning and afternoon ceremonies of its 178th Commencement, WKU will confer degrees and certificates to 1,425 graduates — 65 associate, 981 bachelor’s, 339 master’s, 13 doctoral and 27 certificates.

The 9:30 a.m. ceremony will include graduate and undergraduate degree candidates in the Gordon Ford College of Business, College of Health and Human Services and University College.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will include graduate and undergraduate degree candidates in the Potter College of Arts & Letters, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences and Ogden College of Science and Engineering.

At the afternoon ceremony, Jessica Brumley, a Literature and English for Secondary Education major from Lawrenceburg, will be recognized as the Ogden Foundation Scholar. The award, WKU’s top academic honor, is presented to one graduating baccalaureate degree senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and outstanding university and civic engagement.

WKU President Gary Ransdell will deliver remarks at both ceremonies. The ceremonies will include the parade of U.S. and international flags, recognition of honor graduates and the commissioning of five Army ROTC cadets as second lieutenants. Each graduate also will be given a Class of 2015 WKU red towel to wave at the end of the ceremony. Graduates of WKU’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership will be recognized at the afternoon ceremony.

WKU Glasgow Graduand Ceremony Dec. 3

WKU Glasgow will host its December 2015 Graduand Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 3) at the Plaza Theatre, 115 E. Main St. in Glasgow.

Graduand is a term of status referring to a student who has completed his or her studies at the university but not yet graduated in a formal ceremony. The program, which is a precursor to the official commencement ceremony on the Bowling Green campus, will recognize WKU Glasgow students who have completed all requirements for commencement.

“Graduation is an exciting and important accomplishment for students,” said Dr. Sally Ray, Chancellor of WKU Glasgow. “Some of the students have overcome numerous obstacles to achieve their goal of graduation. We look forward to celebrating this important event with them, their families, and these communities.”

The program will also include student remarks, student awards and Graduand recognition by WKU Provost David Lee. WKU graduate Natasha Jackson, a teacher at Park City Elementary School, will be the keynote speaker. Jackson served four years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. After earning an associate’s degree in Accounting, she graduated from WKU in December 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
