The Bobby Driver Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. announces that Trista A. Childress is the recipient of the third Western Kentucky University $1,000 scholarship for 2017.
Brian M. P. Driver, vice-president, and Betty Driver, founder, of The Bobby Driver Scholarship Fund presented Trista with the $1,000 scholarship at their annual Singing for Scholarship event, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”, on Nov. 4, 2017 at The Plaza Theatre.
Trista is a senior at Western Kentucky University and will be completing her student teaching at North Jackson Elementary School. She has dreamed of becoming a teacher since preschool. She states, “As a future educator, I hope to instill a love for learning and a love for people in my students. I chose this career because I want to be a teacher who encourages, pushes, and motivates children to reach their full potential.”
In the beginning of this endeavor, our greatest rewards came from the commemoration of the life of Bobby Driver, However, as the years have passed, our primary mission has naturally developed into the focal point and most memorable area of our work. We have been fortunate to provide scholarships that enable young students to further their education. We have further realized our dreams, as our scholarships recipients have entered the education fields of work and continue the Bobby Driver legacy in their own individual ways.
At the end of 2018, the Bobby Driver Scholarship Fund will have awarded a total of $49,200 to 30 students.
