CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE, WKU OWENSBORO HOST GROUP FROM XIYUAN HOSPITAL OF CHINA

The Confucius Institute at WKU, in partnership with WKU Owensboro, hosted representatives of Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences from Nov. 29-Dec. 2 for a series of meetings and visits in Bowling Green and Owensboro.
On Wednesday morning (Nov. 30), the delegation met with WKU President Gary A. Ransdell, who signed a memorandum of understanding with the hospital in December 2015, and discussed the possibilities of further developing partnerships with The Medical Center, WKU and Owensboro Health Hospital.
The delegation also toured The Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex and met with Dr. Mary Bennett, director of WKU’s School of Nursing. The group also made a presentation about Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than 70 WKU faculty, staff, students and community members. The Xiyuan group later toured The Medical Center facilities and attended a dinner at the Confucius Institute’s “Model CI Building” on WKU’s campus. At dinner, the delegation shared ideas and discussed potential partnerships with local Chinese doctors working for Graves Gilbert Clinic and private practices.
On Thursday (Dec. 1), the delegation arrived into Owensboro for a series of meetings, starting with the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce “Rooster Booster Breakfast” where they met individuals in the Owensboro economic development sector. The group then visited the WKU Owensboro campus where Dr. Gene Tice, Regional Chancellor of WKU Owensboro, held a dedication of the building’s Confucius Classroom, focusing on Traditional Chinese Medicine. In June 2015, Dr. Tice and Reid Haire, Special Consultant to Owensboro Health Hospital, visited Xiyuan Hospital in Beijing, China, as part of the “Confucius China Study Program,” organized by the CI at WKU. The Xiyuan delegation then toured the Owensboro Health Hospital, conducted presentations for the hospital staff and participated in a reception.
The delegation headed back to Beijing on Friday (Dec. 2).
