Why We Love Student Support Services and You Should Too
- Mark Logan, Graduate Assistant - WKU Counseling and Testing Center

As WKU students, we all have several things in common. First, we all love Big Red. Second, we all strive to attain that (sometimes elusive) degree. Third, we all want to feel support and belonging. Great news, across all of our WKU campuses, there are a variety of support services available to you. While these support services can vary across locations, they are great resources to get plugged into. These services greatly help a large number of students every single semester, so what are you waiting for?
However, as faculty and staff, there is a limit to how much an office can do. As a fellow Hilltopper, I can tell you that there are few things as powerful as getting connected with your peers. This seems to be an issue that we all face as we embark upon this (difficult) journey that we call college. Whether you are a freshman or a sixth-year senior, there are always challenges to connecting with our peers. I highly encourage you to break out of your comfort zone and connect with people, no matter how scary that might seem.
When we think about being “healthy,” most of us immediately jump to the idea of eating more fruits and vegetables and exercising more often. How often do we think about the other entities of personal health? Whether it is emotional, environmental, spiritual, or financial, there are many more areas of wellness than meets the eye. When we ignore or even forget about one of these areas of wellness, we tend to get out of balance. I highly encourage each of you to take a look at your own personal “wellness wheel.” Take time to discover the areas that you have forgotten about, and make an effort to become a more complete and a well-rounded you.
