WKU Increases Summer Scholarship awards for Summer 2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of when social distancing will no longer be necessary, WKU will only offer summer courses online or those that include some synchronous activities delivered with no personal contact.

To offset the cost of online courses, 2020 Summer Scholarship recipients will receive up to $540, the difference between the resident and online rate for eligible undergraduate students enrolled in six credit hours.

“We hope that the scholarship, paired with summer financial aid and summer Pell Grant, will allow more students to participate in the summer term,” said Alicia Spurlock, WKU Summer Sessions Coordinator. “We encourage all undergraduate students to apply,” she added. 

WKU Summer Sessions offers five start dates and hundreds of online classes that range from three to 13 weeks in length. For many students this is an ideal way to catch up on classes they may have dropped or missed.

“WKU faculty are committed to offering high quality courses, while still keeping students safe, healthy, and on track for their academic goals,” said Dr. Cheryl Stevens, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “It is difficult to predict when it will be safe to lift social distancing precautions, and we believe that making this decision now will give our students, faculty, and staff adequate time to make this transition.”
