Over 20 employees from Akebono Brake Corporation in Glasgow, KY recently completed the Supervisor Training Series through WKU Career & Workforce Development (CWD). Each participant completed 28 hours of rigorous coursework designed to improve themselves, others, and processes.
The program was developed through a partnership between CWD, the Southcentral Workforce Development Board, Career Team, and Akebono Brake.
By working together, this newly formed partnership was able to secure funds through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) to help pay for the training. WIOA provides funding for continuing education, training, and upskilling of employees through the Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) grant. This competitive grant is eligible for businesses to effectively train and retain current employees by providing skill upgrades and process improvement training.
“Employees in this program learn practical leadership and supervisory skills that they can use to increase productivity, efficiency, and morale,” said CWD Program Coordinator Kara Neidell.
“Through this program, Akebono reflects their commitment to investing in their employees,” she added.
At the end of the program, all participants received a Certificate of Completion in Supervisory Training.
