WKU Transition to Engineering Program
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Engineering faculty from WKU, Murray State, UK, and UofL have partnered to train high school teachers on the T2E curriculum developed from the First Year Engineering sequence at those schools. High school teachers then instruct their students in this content. At the conclusion of the high school course, students take a final exam provided by the T2E partner universities and complete a project that integrates coding and product development. Students that are successful may receive credit for CE 176, EE 101, or ME 176 at Western Kentucky University. The receiving of these credits is contingent on the student being registered in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering programs at WKU the semester after they graduate from high school.
HIGH SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS
- Provide an educator that is willing to complete training in engineering content.
- Provide resources for a teacher, such as Arduinos and access to software.
- Proctor the T2E final exam in a secure environment to students that will graduate that academic year and allow a representative from the T2E partner universities to observe the assessment time.
- Allow engineering faculty from the partner universities to observe student project presentations.
PROVIDED BY THE PARTNER UNIVERSITIES
- Access to the T2E curriculum.
- Teacher training on content by engineering faculty.
- Assessment examples that may be shared with students.
- Access to faculty willing to collaborate on content through office hours.
- Access to faculty willing to mentor or advise students on projects.
