Robbery

On Friday, 12-09-2010 at about 10:00PM a robbery occurred in the alley between Mimosa Alley and Chestnut Street near the PHI MU House. The suspect was described as a white male wearing a dark hoody and a dark mask. The suspect was possibly armed with some type of weapon. If you have any information on this incident please contact the WKU Police at 745-2548. WKU Police caution females to travel in pairs or groups at night or to use the WKU Escort Service.

Impersonating a Peace Officer

On 12/08/10 at 11:30AM a student was approached by an individual in plain clothes in front of Downing University Center on Avenue of Champions stating he was an undercover officer and stated he was going to search him. The student asked to see the individual’s badge. The subject advised him he did not have a badge on him because he was undercover. This subject is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, medium build, about 25 – 30 years of age, black thick buzz cut, pale complexion, wearing a dark shirt, black jacket and blue jeans.

Assault

On 10/21/10 at about 7:00PM an attempted assault occurred on Normal Ave near Cravens Library. The suspects are described as two white males in their 20’s wearing dark clothes. If you have any information on this incident please contact the WKU Police at 745-2548. WKU Police caution females to travel in pairs or groups at night or to use the WKU Escort Service.

Burglary

The Western Kentucky University Police Department has received multiple reports of burglaries from Residence Halls. The primary items taken are cell phones, laptops computers and video systems/games. The majority of items are being taken are from unlocked rooms while the resident steps out even for short periods of time or are asleep. Anyone with information regarding these or any other crime should contact the WKU Police at (270) 745-2548 or use the Tip-Line at (270) 745-8773. Also, if anyone has attempted or attempts to sell you items that may be questionable, please contact the WKU Police immediately. Please review the following tips to reduce your chances of being a victim:

  • Do not let strangers into your residence hall.
  • Report crimes and suspicious activity to the police immediately.
  • Do not allow strangers in your room.
  • Get IDs from maintenance or repair people who want access into your room.
  • Lock your doors and windows whenever you leave the room.
  • Do not prop open the door to your residence.
  • Do not leave notes on your door indicating you are not there.
  • Record serial numbers and take photographs of your valuables.
  • Engrave valuables with an engraver and record descriptive information on an inventory record sheet.
  • Take the time to secure your valuables and lock up your bicycles.
  • Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
  • Do not be the victim of a crime because you did not take the time to secure your valuables.

Robbery

This advisory statement is to alert our campus community of a recent increase of reported robberies in the area. These robberies are occurring at or after dusk in apartment complexes that may house students. The suspect is a black male in his early to mid 20's. He is approaching the victims after they exit their vehicles. Please increase your situational awareness and diligence in insuring you safety.
