Interior Design Student Wins Award in national PAVE Design Competition
It was announced on April 17, 2013, that Jade Boyle, a senior interior design student from Glasgow, KY, won second place in The Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE) competition for her store fixtue design. Jade will receive a $2500 cash prize from PAVE for achieving this honor.
The challenge for this year's competition was to design a functional headphone display and include a 3-D rendering of the design for judging. PAVE received 209 entries from 12 countries and Ms. Boyle competed against students from the US, India, the UK and France. The top twelve designs were produced as prototypes to display at GlobalShop 2013, in Chicago, which offers the students a chance to see their designs come to life, gain exposure at a major industry trade show, and win cash awards.
Dietetic Students Win Awards and Scholarships
Three Dietetics students were honored at the Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Meeting in April, 2013.
Jan Claussen, senior from Hendersonville, TN, was named the 2013 Outstanding Dietetics Student.
Hannah Yount, senior from Jackson, Ky., won the Iva Alexander Scholarship.
Audrey Kaelin, senior from Owensboro, Ky., won the Lyn Fleming Scholarship,.
Congratulations to these students for receiving these much-deserved honors.
Hadden Receives Recognition
Eloise Hadden, of Auburn, KY, a 1956 graduate of the Family and Consumer Sciences department, was installed in the Governor Louie B. Nunn Teacher Hall of Fame on February 26, 2013. "This year's inductees are indicative of the high quality of Kentucky teachers," Gov. Steve Beshear said. "We've all come to expect great things from Kentucky teachers."

Fashion Merchandising Students Compete in Fashion Group International Career Day
On April 12, 2013, a Fashion Career Day was held at the World Trade Center Apparel Mart in Dallas, TX. This year, ten WKU Fashion Merchandising students attended along with their instructor, Cindy Jones. Eight of the students competed in the Trend Forecasting Board competition for the Natural Fiber Council. With over 550 entries and 44 schools represented this year, it was the most competitive Career Day on record. FGI Dallas Career Day 2013 awarded $37,500 in scholarships this year, including the new FGI Dallas President's Award for $2000 to the first runner up to The Musselman Fashion Design Award. The students competing are judged by an outside panel of experts and the amount of talent that is presented is truly amazing.
Dietetic Interns Attend Legislative Day at State Capitol
On February 7, 2013, the WKU Dietetic Intern class, along with two WKU dietetics faculty, attended the Kentucky Academy for Nutrition and Dietetics annual legislative day at the Kentucky State Capitol. The interns attended an information session and toured the legislative chambers. While in the Senate Chamber, the interns had the opportunity to meet and talk with The Honorable Mike Wilson, state Senator from Bowling Green, and the interns were introduced on the Senate floor.
Obituary
Marjorie Hall Cowherd, age 94, died on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. She was a graduate of the Family and Consumer Sciences department, was a member of the FACS Alumni Association, and the Warren County Home Economists.
