Collaboration with Undergraduate Students
The Center is dedicated to fostering collaborative research with undergraduate students, providing them with opportunities for hands-on experience and academic growth. Through the FUSE grant program, the Center has supported numerous undergraduate projects that have led to students presenting their work at both national and international conferences.
As of October 2024, the total number of FUSE grants awarded to undergraduate students is 15, with a combined total funding amount of $58,000.
Below is a list of collaborative research projects led by the Center, where undergraduate students have worked closely with our faculty. Many of these students have had the opportunity to present their research at national and international conferences, showcasing their work and gaining valuable experience in the process.

2023 – May 2024: Jonathan Roberts received $4,000 for a FUSE project titled “Optimizing Revenue Management Strategies in the Hospitality Industry.” He was awarded a $500 bonus after presenting this research at an international conference.

2023 – May 2024: Lilly Shipley was awarded $3,000 for her FUSE project titled “Assessing Risk Factors and Early Detection in Stroke Prediction.” She received a $500 bonus for presenting her research at a conference.

2023 – May 2024: Geoffrey Ross received $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Developing and Evaluating a Prediction Model for Diabetes Diagnosis.” He was awarded a $500 bonus after presenting his research at a conference.

2022 – May 2023: Aaron Wallace was awarded $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “How Much Does It Cost to Have a Heart Attack in the US?” He received a $500 bonus after presenting his research at a conference.

2022 – 2023: Layla Dalton received $3,000 for a FUSE project titled “Health Inequity and the Role of Artificial Intelligence.” She earned a $500 bonus for presenting her research at a conference.

2022 – 2023: Jonah Hathaway was awarded $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Think Pandemic-Related Fraud Is Going Away? Think Again!” He received a $500 bonus for presenting his research at a conference.

2020 – 2021: Morgan Lyons was awarded $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Profiling - Risk Analysis.” He earned a $500 bonus for presenting his research at a conference.

2020 – 2021: Abigail McGraw received $3,000 for her FUSE project titled “Analytics to Predict Pregnant Customers.” She was awarded a $500 bonus after presenting her research at a conference.

2019 – 2020: Ian Hamilton was awarded $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Using ML to Detect Financial Fraud.” He received a $500 bonus for presenting his research at a conference.

2018 – 2019: Kyla Scanlon was awarded $3,000 for her FUSE project titled “The True Economic Impact of Terrorism.” She presented her research at the Teradata Universe Conference.

2017 – 2018: Kyle Hart received $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Discovering Pathways to Success.” He earned a $500 bonus for presenting his research at a conference.

2016 – 2017: Ryan Boone was awarded $5,000 for his project titled “Improving Ecosystem Quality Through Data Mining.” He presented his research at the Teradata Universe Conference.

2016 – 2017: Zach Ross received $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Too Big to Fail? Too Blind to See?” He presented his research at the INFORMS Conference.

2016 – 2017: Corey Travis was awarded $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Lend Smarter: Using Analytics to Better Enhance Consumer Lending.” He presented his research at the INFORMS Conference.

2014 – 2015: Cody Kirk received $3,000 for his FUSE project titled “Affinity-Based Marketing.” He presented his research at the INFORMS Conference.
These projects illustrate the Center's dedication to fostering student growth and development, providing students with hands-on experiences, and supporting their participation in prestigious academic conferences. Through these initiatives, the Center plays a pivotal role in preparing the next generation of data analytics professionals for successful careers in the field.
