BA 495: Career Development Activities


Students must complete the activities from the five categories listed below to pass the course. Each activity earns a number of points, with a minimum number of points required based on category. Category I activities are required. Students must complete a total of 250 points to pass the course. All activities are tracked in the Suitable platform.

 

  • LinkedIn Profile -students will be required to create a profile, make connections, and join or create groups (10 points)
  • Career Portfolio (50 points)
  • Confirm enrollment in BA495 (10 points)

Examples of Developmental Workshops include topics such as:  Social Media and Professional Image, Personal Branding, Professionalism, Financial Success, Negotiation, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Communication seminars, etc. 

  • Handshake Resume Upload (10 points)
  • Job Fair Preparation (10 points)
  • Clothes Closet Attendance (10 points)
  • Interviewing Skills Workshop (20 points)
  • Mock Interviewing Session (20 points)
  • WKU/GFCB Career Fair Attendance (20 points)
  • Applying for Jobs Online Seminar (20 points)
  • LinkedIn Workshop (20 points) 
Examples of Exploration and Networking events include:  professional networking event, Meet the Firms, etiquette dinner, significant job shadowing or career mentoring, significant leadership role in a student organization, Career Hike, professional conference attendance, Career Trek.
  • FIN161 (grade B or higher) (50 points)
  • FIN161 (grade C or higher) (40 points)
  • FIN161 (grade D or higher) (10 points)
  • Completion of a Personal Financial Success modules (20 points each module) If modules are pursued, the Spending Plan module must be the first completed (see below).
