Ayanna Morgan Scholarship Fund

Ms. Ayanna Elexis Annette Morgan, 21 entered eternal rest, July 24, 2023. She was the first born to her doting mother, Misha-el Yolonda Wright on August 10, 2001, in Savannah, Georgia. Ayanna’s early years were spent accompanying her mother as she volunteered in local community resource centers around the city. She spent hours, surrounded by her Sankofa family, where she accompanied her mom at dance events & rehearsals in the service of the City of Savannah.

In 2005, Ayanna moved to Anchorage, Alaska where she gained a second family. She enjoyed gymnastics and was a principal dancer for The Rhythm of Light Dance Team. She excelled in her studies from elementary through junior high school. It was at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church in Alaska, where she first began her spiritual journey.

Ayanna later moved to Louisville, Kentucky where she was lovingly cared for by her nana Veronica Hiriams. While in Kentucky, she attended Ballard High School. It was there that she became an integral part of the Lady Bruins basketball team. However, a knee injury limited her ability to play the game as often as she would have liked. Ayanna was such a fierce opponent, that college scouts still showed interest in recruiting her even after such a devastating injury. Ayanna later graduated from Ballard High School with honors and is remembered by her fellow classmates as a studious and tenacious talent.

Her love of animals at an early age led her to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician through Western Kentucky University. Ayanna tirelessly juggled two jobs to help pay her tuition, in pursuit of her dreams. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree posthumously in December of 2023.

Ayanna loved music and dancing. She would often be seen performing with her family in various productions in Alaska, on family trips, or wherever there was music playing.

Ayanna will be remembered for her incredibly bright spirit and a steadfast determination that could not be tamed. It is with great sadness that she was taken away so suddenly, but her memory will be held dear by family and friends for all of eternity and forever more.

To honor her memory, friends and family established the Ayanna Morgan Scholarship Fund. The fund assists deserving students to obtain a higher education. Through this fund, Ayanna's legacy lives on.
