Michael Brown Scholarship Fund
Michael Brown was a native of Monroe County, Kentucky and a 1975 graduate of WKU. A Certified Public Accountant, he was employed by Stephens Manufacturing for more than 30 years, ultimately serving as Chief Financial Officer. Throughout his career, he was intentional about being involved in the community. Mike was an active member of the Jaycees and other civic organizations for a number of years. Later, he became an advisor in both the local business and church communities.
Mike was a lifelong sports fan with a special love for the Tops. In both victory and defeat, he was an avid supporter of WKU athletes. A long-time season ticket holder, he never missed a chance to sport the red towel. Mike was also dedicated to local high school athletics. He enjoyed multiple seasons as a referee and umpire and later served as official scorekeeper for the Monroe County Falcon basketball team. Despite his love and support of sport, that is not what he was most known for. For those who knew Mike personally, he is most remembered for his kindness, his sharp mind and his unquestionable character.
To honor his memory, friends and family established the Michael Brown Scholarship Fund in 2020. The fund assists deserving full-time WKU students who demonstrate leadership, scholarship, community engagement, and financial need and are members of an intercollegiate sport recognized by the NCAA and the Department of Athletics. Recipients must be graduates from a 4th Region rural high school–Franklin-Simpson, Logan County, Russellville, Todd County Central, Allen County-Scottsville, Barren County, Glasgow, Monroe County, Clinton County, Cumberland County, Metcalfe County, or Russell County. Through this fund, Mike’s legacy lives on in perpetuity.
